Finding Where You Fit

Sometimes finding where you fit in life is a difficult task. Believe me, I know. My senior year of high school I thought I knew where my calling was. It wasn't until the last day of my sophomore year of college that I discovered my real calling.

My senior year of high school I remember sifting through brochure after brochure to find the right school to go to. In order to pick the right school I had to know what majors I was interested in. The thing was, I had no idea. I didn't particularly excel in one area over another. I was a pretty balanced student as far as grades go. The one thing I did know, science was NOT my calling. Science was definitely my least favorite subject and the most difficult. I also didn't feel particularly passionate about Math. So, what was left... English and History. For awhile I thought about being a children's author. Inspired by an author who had visited our class in kindergarten and signed my book. That dream faded and I thought that maybe ministry was for me. After all I have always been involved with Church and I loved helping others out. That was when I discovered worship arts. The worship arts major was designed to train students for leading or preforming worship in church. Since I liked to help people and loved to sing, I thought this was the perfect fit for me. Thus, I pursued worship arts for two years.

It took me two years to finally admit to myself that the major I was in wasn't the right one. Not until a meeting with my professors did I allow God to take me where he had been directing me all along. When I finally found my calling it was a perfect fit. I knew because it was a place where my skills and abilities were all put to use. It was also a place where I felt at home with myself. During my first two years of college I had never felt this in my major. I had always felt that I wasn't quite good enough and that I was so different from any of my classmates. But when it was right I had no question that I was right where I needed to be.

Sometimes figuring out what you've been called to do is difficult and confusing and may take a long time. But when you get there you will know. Keep seeking God and he will lead you, he is faithful.

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
