Devotional Monday: Shine

 Philippians 2:14-16
"Do everything without grumbling or arguing,  so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation." Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain."

This month as we have talked about self worth, we have talked about what self worth is, that we are precious in his sight, bought with a price, and how we are worth more than many sparrows to God. Today as I read the verse above in my devotional and I was reminded that when I hold firmly to God's word that is when he shines in me.
When we hold firmly to the truth in God's word instead of the lies that the world feeds us about our self worth, that is when we shine. The second part of Phil. 2:14-16 says it best, "Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life" An example of holding fast to God's word is in the story of Dorcas, although she is told by others that she should only live by good works alone, but she goes further than that. She holds firmly to what God has told her and clearly finds her identity in him, and not in the world. Think about that for a second.

Sisters, remember that you are precious in his sight, and that you can only find your identity in Christ. Don;t listen to the lies of this world, hold firmly to the truth that his unfailing love and precious word provide for you. Let your light shine before him and not the world.

Rest your weary soul in the truth of Matthew 5:16 , "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

  1. This is a great devo, thanks for sharing! I'm encouraged you're talking about self worth - something I've been seeing so much on blogs recently, and I so need! I think the biggest point I get is how, when you're holding on to God's truth, good works result, but when you're holding onto your works, it becomes more about you than God.

    1. Thanks Jenn!,
It's definitely important to remember, that's it's not always about us.
