Prayer Changes Things

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have one of our awesome sponsors Chelsea from The Girl Who Loved To Write. She is sharing her heart on this months theme prayer, So be sure to check out her blog, you will love it!

I grew up in church where I constantly heard the expression, “prayer changes things.”

So I prayed.  As a little kid, I said my bedtime prayers.  In middle school I started having a quiet time where I would spend time reading my Bible and praying each morning.  Although I knew it was important, it never felt like my prayers really changed anything, like the phrase I had heard so often promised.   To me, it seemed that God already knew what He was going to do, so why pray?  Out of obligation, I suppose.  So I continued praying, even though I didn’t know if it made a difference or not.

When I was in college I started something called The Life Journal, and it helped me keep my prayer life on track.   Being able to look back on the things I prayed over was a powerful thing, and it was through that I realized something extremely important.

Prayer changes me.

So I think that would be the better expression.  Prayer changes me, which in turn, changes things.

When I spend time in prayer, my heart is more aligned with God’s heart.  He is able to take His desires and make them my own.  He is able to point out things that aren’t so great in my life.  He is able to change me, because I am spending time talking to Him.

Prayer is a precious gift.  One that changes us in the most beautiful way when we use it.

Are you unsure of how to pray?  I’ll leave you with some advice my dad gave me.

“When you don’t know what to pray, or how to pray, talk to God about it.”

This always made me laugh, but it is very true.  Prayer is conversation with our heavenly Father.  He is waiting to hear from you—what a gift!
