The Dangers of Pride

Founders Note: Today on the blog we have a guest post from Dee. Dee is sharing her heart on this month's theme Pride. You can learn more about Dee in her Bio at the end of the post.

Pride is a spirit and like every other spirit it has an agenda to hinder our walk and relationship with our Heavenly Father. One of the first well noted instances of pride in the bible is the fall of Lucifer due to his desire to be like the Most High.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:   I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. (Isaiah 14:13-15)

Because of his desire to be lifted up Lucifer was ultimately removed from heaven and out of the presence of the Lord. Pride is not something to take likely because as we can see from the beginning of time the fruit of pride is not desirable in the end. The bible speaks about pride in a plethora of scriptures and I believe this is because God is trying to get our attention concerning this lethal sin. The Word of God shows us that God is not pleased with those who have allowed the spirit of pride to take root and begin to operate in their lives.

Pride is dangerous and will never yield righteous fruit or bring good results in to our lives. As believers pride is something we all have to watch out for and pray against. The dangers of pride is something we all should be familiar with from a bible perspective. Below is a list of the potential dangers associated with pride.

Shame
Proverbs 11:2 - [When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom.

Destruction
Proverbs 16:18 - Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Lacking Hope
Proverbs 26:12 - Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.

Being Deceived
Galatians 6:3 -For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

Abomination to the Lord
Proverbs 16:5 - Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Resisted by God
James 4:6 - But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
