I cannot tell you how true this verse has been for my life. As a young girl I asked the Lord for Wisdom and he did not disappoint. Having the gift of Wisdom from God is one of the things I am most grateful for. I am indebted to God for the understanding he has allowed me. It has protected me from many things. God has used Wisdom in my life to bring glory to His name in many ways and I am so grateful that he chose me as a vessel for this.
I remember sitting in my last field seminar class as a senior in college. We were taking a last chance at the end of the two years we had spent together to go around and say to each one, something genuine and good. Then it happened. My classmate understood me dead on. I was stunned that someone saw me and understood me so well, especially since that someone wasn't even a close friend of mine. The note I have of the words she said to me reads, "Diamonds are made. It's not a loud process. Little diamonds - little bits of wisdom. Be able to listen, you do it. You voiced that you changed from talks. Thank you. Lots more diamonds."
Let me interpret. What she said to me that day was that I was quite, I didn't talk much but when I did, what I said was something really special and wise. It was like these words of wisdom were being refined inside of me in my quietness and when they were ready to come out they were precious. She stated that she really appreciated these bits of wisdom and compared them to diamonds. She said that I am able to listen without needing to speak. Then she thanked me for appreciating and learning from her projects that presented different sides of controversial issues. And lastly she stated that she looks forward to hearing about "lots more diamonds".
Her words encouraged my heart greatly and still do as I type this today. But the point here is not me. It's about God, his grace, and his precious gift of Wisdom.
Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
Matthew Henry's Commentary says this about verses 10 and 11... "Whatever we can sit down and wish for of the wealth of this world would, if we had it, be unworthy to be compared with the advantages that attend serious godliness. 2. We must be dead to the wealth of this world, that we may the more closely and earnestly apply ourselves to the business of religion. We must receive instruction as the main matter, and then be indifferent whether we receive silver or no;"
Sisters & Brothers,
I pray today that you would see the value in God's wisdom. I also pray that that God would provide you with the gift of it. May he lead you in the way everlasting and may His wisdom go with you. I pray that your heart would be encouraged, that you would know the deep grace and mercy of our great God. That you would know it is sufficient for you. May you be blessed this day, and know the love and peace of God. Amen.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
